Hawkins King is the brainchild of Raleigh, NC based multi-instrumentalist Daniel Anderson. After garnering lots of experience as a sideman on both a national and local level, he began writing songs and singing, and began to assemble a team to perform them live, as most of the material is recorded completely by himself on every instrument.
The songs that were coming out were highly influenced by everything that shaped Daniel's style of playing. It's Hill Country blues, Delta blues, psychedelic rock, and country, with the intensity of hard bop, blended together to make a bluesy, roots/rock style. Hawkins King had never played a gig, but they decided to make their debut at the Triangle Blues Society's 2018 Blues Challenge. They didn't win, but they were well received and made an impact.
“The third act was a fun trio that is newly making the scene. Hawkins King features the guitar works of Daniel Anderson, the bass phrasings of Dillon Partin and the backbeats of Scott Jones on drums. Their music is a good blend of delta blues meeting with contemporary arrangements. They were much different than the other acts, and perhaps the most original of the competition.” - North Carolina Music Zone
The last line of that review was a confirmation to Daniel that he was indeed on his desired path with his music. He continues to write and record material and anticipates a 2019 full length release. Hawkins King looks forward to performing and growing their fan base in the Triangle and beyond!
